Abstract
Purpose : This study assessed the effects of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) on balance, fall efficacy, and fall-related fitness in stroke patients, using a cohort of 30 stroke patients divided into two groups

Method : the experimental group(transcranial direct current stimulation plus a virtual reality program) and the control group with false tDCS and a virtual reality. With 15 patients in each group, they received appropriate treatment over 30 sessions (5 times per week over 6-week period, 30 minutes per session). In order to assess the change in balance before and after the intervention, Berg Balance scale was utilized. Fall efficacy was evaluated using the Korean Falls Efficacy Scale for the Elderly (FES-K), and the following exercise were performed by the patients to assess fall-related fitness: sitting down on a chair and standing up; 244cm round-trip; and standing on one foot.

Result : After the intervention, the experimental group exhibited significantly increased fall efficacy and fall-related fitness, while the control group exhibited no difference. These findings suggest that tDCS has positive effects on balance, fall efficacy, and fall-related fitness of stroke patients.

Conclusion : Therefore, tDCS is an intervention that would bring positive effects on balance, fall efficacy, and fall-related fitness of stroke patients undergoing rehabilitation.
